Early American Cloth Rag Doll with Composition Head – c. 1910s–1920s
This is an authentic early American cloth (rag) doll with a composition head, dating to the late 1910s–early 1920s.
The doll features a hand-stitched patchwork cloth body, stuffed arms and legs, and original fabric boots with stitched soles. Her composition head shows classic early features with painted stationary eyes and original facial paint remnants. She retains her original fabric cap and traditional gauze neck wrap, both commonly seen on early American cloth dolls.
These dolls were often produced using factory-made heads and finished with cloth bodies either commercially or at home, making each example unique.
This doll is intended for display or collection only and is best appreciated as a piece of early American folk art.
